Brief

These projects outline a strategic thrust towards modernizing the manufacturing sector through six key projects in collaboration with industry leaders. These initiatives include improving steel production at HEC by controlling non-metallic inclusions using energy-efficient EAF methods, and developing a multi-sensor integrated robotic system with Tata Steel for hazardous industrial tasks. Furthermore, IIT Kharagpur is actively engaged in advancing additive manufacturing through two projects: one focused on overcoming technological challenges with partners like BHEL, and another with Tata Sons and Tata Motors on raw material selection and life cycle analysis of AM processes. Finally, the institute is leveraging digital technologies with a project on remote monitoring and real-time control of defects in friction stir welding with TCS, and another using Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) with Tata Sons to enhance supply chain coordination, quality, and maintenance.
