Augmentation of Existing Centre of Excellence by AMTDC, IIT Madras

After successful completion and demonstration of 11 technologies in the phase I projects, AMTDC actively collaborated with 2 more new industry partners while joining hands again with 2 industry partners from phase I. With the strong support from MHI, technologies that require more efforts were focused in phase II. One of the technologies being targeted is the development of superfinishing process and a machine tool to realize this developed process, in collaboration with Grind Master. On the other hand, solutions required for strategic sectors are being taken up with Chennai Metco and Micromatic Grinding. A thermally efficient machine tool development is being targeted with Lokesh Machine Tools.

The following are the details of the each of the 11 technology development projects taken up with each industrial partner. Grind Master Pvt. Ltd.: - Sophisticated machine tool development / Mother machine tool & mother technologies development 1. Development of bearing raceway superfinishing machines and process Micromatic Grinding Technologies: Mother technologies development 2. Development of a production grade cylindrical grinding machine tool with indigenously developed hydrostatic bearings Lokesh Machines Ltd. Mother machine tool development 3. Development of thermally efficient 5 axis vertical machining centre Chennai Metco Pvt. Ltd.: Machine tool development 4. Metallographic sample preparation system for hot cell - strategic sector 5. Opto-electronic polishing machine tool 6. Plano-grinding and plano-milling machine tools for steel mill These projects are periodically being monitored by a competitive and able Progress Review and Monitoring Committee (PRMC), constituted by the MHI. Advanced Machine Tool Testing Facility (AMTTF) will be the third party to test and validate these developed technologies as per the applicable standards.
