Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre (AMTDC) is a Centre of Excellence (CoE) set up under the Capital Goods Scheme - phase I by IIT Madras, with the support of MHI, then DHI. Based on the technology road map for machine tools in India, critical technologies that are to be indigenously developed within the country were identified as project targets. Machine tool manufacturing companies were sought for active participation in this indigenization drive. AMTDC was set up as a CoE and registered as a technical society under the Tamil Nadu societies registration act by IIT Madras. The identified critical technologies have been categorized in to the following areas: 1. Sophisticated machine tool development; 2. Mother machine tool & mother technologies; 3.Smart & Digital manufacturing; 4. Industrial Automation Most of the technologies developed are very much relevant to the Indian manufacturing industries including automotive, aerospace, strategic areas like defense, healthcare etc. and directly impact the import dependence.
