The ISB Accelerator Scheme for Enhancement of Competitiveness in the Capital Goods Sector – Phase II, supported by the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), is a project of national strategic importance. Led by Prof. Chandan Chowdhury at ISB, the initiative aims to boost India’s self-reliance in the electric mobility sector by reducing dependency on imports and driving innovation. The project showcases the power of collaboration between academia, industry (startups and established companies), and government. Under this scheme, five groundbreaking research projects have been launched, addressing key challenges in the EV ecosystem, , from battery circularity and thermal management using quantum algorithms to advanced motor controllers, battery management systems, and electric power steering. This effort is not just about technology—it’s about building intellectual property, promoting indigenous capabilities, and creating products for global markets. With expert guidance from a Project Review & Monitoring Committee (PR&MC) formed by MHI, the ISB Accelerator is paving the way for India’s leadership in next-generation electric mobility. Shri Sunil Kant Munjal, Chairman, Munjal Institute for Global Manufacturing, Indian School of Business, said: “This initiative is a standout example of how India can lead through innovation, collaboration, and a strong resolve to build indigenous capabilities. At the Munjal Institute for Global Manufacturing (ISB), we are delighted to partner with the Ministry of Heavy Industries in this critical effort to accelerate the nation’s transition to electric mobility. By fusing academic excellence and policy vision with research capability and industry know-how, we are helping shape a self-reliant and globally competitive India.”
