Development of web based technology innovation platform namely SURGE by HMT and IISc

SURGE is a Technology Innovation Platform for Indian Machine Tool Sector aimed at bringing together all the allied stakeholders onto a common platform for coordinating major concerted efforts in indigenous development of core mother technologies in manufacturing by providing an open eco-system for R&D and collaboration supported by virtual networks. HMT Machine Tools Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of HMT Limited and a well-known public sector enterprise and Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru (IISc),India’s premier institute for higher education and research, have joined hands to deploy“SURGE”which stems out ofthe process of‘SPARK, UNFOLD, REALIZE, GROW & EXCEL’. HMT Machine Tools Limited has signed an Innovation support and project advisory Agreement with IISc for SURGE platform operations. The development and deployment of the SURGE Platforms sponsored by the Ministry of Heavy Industries of the Government of India and the Central Public Sector Enterprises – HMT Limited, HMT (international) Limited and HMT Machine Tools Limited. The core objective of “SURGE” is to promote collective and coordinated efforts to enhance the technological capabilities of the Machine Tool Sector, thereby providing impetus to the growth of the Manufacturing Sector and overall Techno-Economic progress of the country, through collaboration and sharing of knowledge, expertise and experience amongst Industries, R&Ds, Academia, MSMEs, Start-ups, Professionals, Students etc. who along with the policy makers form the major stakeholders in the sector. Given the technology gap and consequent high levels of import content in Machine Tool Building, SURGE is oriented towards facilitation of technology / capability upgradation of the domestic manufacturing sector, thereby enabling production of Import substitution machines and reduction in technology gap in the areas of Metal Cutting, Metal forming & other allied products, auxiliaries & services.
